李鳳珍 LI, Fung Chun
Li Fung Chun Artist 李鳳珍藝術家 (b. 1988, Hong Kong) received her BA (Fine Arts) degree from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) in 2013, and is pursuing her MA in Fine Arts at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Li’s early work muses on her own urban existence; working with both traditional (oil, acrylic, charcoal) and unconventional materials (ashes, sand, rusty nails), these installations and mixed-media paintings address contradictions that range from the limits of privacy, to the intimacy (or lack thereof) in interpersonal relationships, and the alienating effect of modern architecture and cityscape. Another thread of interest that runs through Li’s oeuvre is her reflection on human sufferings – in war, sexual abuses, the plight of refugees, and natural disasters – from times and places far removed from her own. Li has recently turned to depict these chaos and transgression in series of Chinese ink paintings: After Turner takes liberal leaves from J.M.W. Turner’s landscapes to contemplate the notion of ownership by reinterpretation; while At Sea juxtaposes images from the global migrant crisis with seascapes crafted with contemporary ink-wash techniques. Li’s work has been exhibited in Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Hong Kong Arts Centre, Hong Kong City Hall, JCCAC, PMQ, Art Central, Blindspot Gallery, H queen’s and K11.
