H:
Use an object as a metaphor to describe the creative process

L:
Ceramics: This type of art piece is only finished after it has been fired at high temperatures over a long period of time. Similarly, this work can go on stage only after intensive rehearsals over a long period of time.

T:
Tai Chi: How this piece being created, both the choreography and music, has this reciprocal influencing quality. There won’t be this move in the choreography if the music is not being as it is. I wouldn’t put that note on paper if Jiabo’s and Chaoya's ideas aren't as strong.

C:
Spiderweb: This is the work’s highlight that will be on stage. It signifies an obstacle to be overcome, representing a new collaboration between HKB and me. This also symbolizes my personal challenge.

“Ceramics: This type of art piece is only finished after it has been fired at high temperatures over a long period of time. Similarly, this work can go on stage only after intensive rehearsals over a long period of time.” Li Jiabo

He Chaoya, Choreographer

H:
On learning each other’s artistic and working styles

L:
Artists are also human beings. Immerse yourself to listen and learn, and you will soon know how others work.

T:
Jiabo spent quite some time hanging out and talking with me to make sure we got to know each other well enough and understand who we are as people and as artists before we created anything. I didn’t realise how important it was until he started working in the studio.

C: after sufficient communication, there will be mutual understanding.

“I try to put myself into the other person’s position, to think of the possibilities and limitations. The completed work should combine both efforts.” Rachel Cheung

H:
On merging different elements and the challenges

L:
There was a time when I pondered how to combine the choreography with ceramics at every moment. One day, when the sun was shining, I suddenly found the inspiration. Without my previous efforts, I wouldn’t have found the inspiration easily.

T:
I don’t see a specific way to “merge” different elements. What I can control is to really get into how these elements are, not how it “wants to be”. Really get in touch with the ideas and be careful with it.

C:
I try to put myself into the other person’s position, to think of the possibilities and limitations. The completed work should combine both efforts.
